Walk In Clinics vs. GuideWell Emergency Doctors?

You never expect a sore throat, fever, or a broken bone.  Life’s health emergencies happen without a moment’s notice, and usually at the most inopportune times.

This happened to me about a year ago, and boy, did I wish there was a GuideWell Emergency Doctors was around when I needed them.

All week I was feeling great, then Friday evening came along and I started to feel achy and have a scratchy throat. That night my appetite disappeared and I began to have night sweats. Saturday morning came along and my fever was 101 degrees.

I knew something was wrong, but my general practitioner doesn’t work on the weekend. I had no choice but to go to a walk-in clinic. I went in, saw a P.A., had no testing, and left with some cough suppressant. Two days later felt worse, and when I went to my primary care doctor She suggested further testing like a throat culture and a chest xray based on my exam and worsening symptoms.

After testing that took hours in a hospital and a dozen phone calls, it turns out I had bronchitis. I was a bit frustrated, as I felt that I should have been given a more complete evaluation at the outset.

The whole time I was sick and miserable I wished that I could go to GuideWell Emergency Doctors, and here’s why:

  • Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians: All GuideWell Emergency Doctors locations are always staffed by board certified emergency medicine physicians and have the expertise to handle both major medical issues
  • Any Illness or Injury, They Can Help: No matter what the illness or injury you can go to GuideWell Emergency Doctors and get the help you need. Had I been in Orlando at the time, I would have gone straight to GuideWell Emergency Doctors. You get treated right in the facility GuideWell Emergency Doctors has the staff to treat major medical conditions, as well as minor urgent care needs.  They have any testing that might be needed, right there, onsite, with immediate results.  That way they can properly evaluate and diagnose your condition.
  • Any Time, Even on The Weekend: GuideWell Emergency Doctors has state of the art equipment such as x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds and labs and are available anytime of day or night. .
  • Fast Door-to-Doctor Time: While my wait time at the walk in clinic was not long, I did have to wait, as someone was ahead of me, and they had only one nurse practitioner on staff. If I were at GuideWell Emergency Doctors, I would have been seen in a faster amount of time. GuideWell Emergency Doctors have several physicians on staff; so getting seen would have been faster.

Think of GuideWell Emergency Doctors as a small-scale emergency room – They are able to treat all the same major and minor conditions; the difference is GuideWell Emergency Doctors has a much friendlier and more pleasant experience compared to a typical ER or walk in clinic.
